‘Social Engagement’ youth centre

Social Engagement

The project is titled ‘social engagement’ because of its aim to engage the youth suffering from homelessness with tools to enable a better future for themselves to live independently outside the facility but while also sharing this journey with others on a similar path. The social engagement project is a space for children and young adults (aged 15 -22) to help, teach and share experiences through the open plan multi-level living areas and workshop while also enjoying private retreats provided for all rooms in the facility.

The social engagement project is a response to the following statistics provided by the A-I-H-W being that from 2016 findings people aged between 15-24 made up 21% of the homeless population which is approximately just over 24,000 people around my own age bracket that do not have the same opportunities that I do. The figure of 24,000 is also in increase from the last findings in 2006 by approximately 6,000 young people in 10 years. By providing basic amenities to some of these young people experiencing homelessness opens much more opportunities for them to get back on their feet physically, financially, and emotionally which is what the social engagement project aims to do whilst creating a community of the residents.
